Do You Watch Law & Order?

I am really not a big fan of TV shows.  I like movies and I like to watch sports but other than that the only shows I can watch consistently are House and Law and Order SVU.  I saw a episode of Law and Order last night that had me trippin’.  I’m sure this was a older episode and I’m amazed I haven’t seen it before but It made me check myself.

It started off with a middle aged couple in a car waiting in traffic on a side street.  They looked and sounded if they had money.  They must have been coming from some play or social function and they were just trying to get home.  It was a NYC street they were on waiting behind a white work van.  There was construction in front of the white van that had traffic held up.  So as the couple was talking the back door of the van in front of them swung open and something fell out.  They were not sure if had seen something fall out.  The van took off, so the husband who was driving was about to take off and drive after a brief debate over if something actually fell out of the van.  As he was about to drive a hand reached in front of the car.  It was the hand of a 9 year old girl.  The SVU team came out to investigate.  The found that the girl had been missing for about 2 days.  She also had been raped.  The little girl’s mother did not want her little girl to talk about the events because she saw how much it affected the girl.  As the SVU team was going home for the night, the boss stopped them all in the elevator telling them they could not leave because another little girl had just been reported kidnapped and a white van had been involved.  So the team worked though the night trying to get some kind of lead.  They ended up piecing together 4 prior rapes and murders of little girls in the NYC area.  These little girls ranged from ages 7-9.  From the information the collected from the little girl that fell out of the van and the information from the prior victims, they found that this man who was doing this kept the girls 3 days.  Each day was a different activity day…  Day one being picture day, day two being party day and day three being special day.  Day three was the day he murdered and killed them.  It’s now Day 2 for the little girl he currently has.  The SVU team has yet to go home because they realize that time is against them and they have no leads.  To make a long story short, they eventually catch up to the guy.  He’s automatically eligible for the death penalty.  He then comes to the table with his lawyer wanting to work a deal.  There was a 5^th little girl that was never found that he was willing to tell where she was if they took the death penalty off the table.

The first is that it disturbs me to know that there are actually people out there that rape and kill people and kill people. It makes it even worse for it to be defenseless young girls. I know this is just a TV show, but me being a Law and Order fan plus the fact that I lived in NY and know that most of the shows produced by Dick Wolf are usually variations of real stories. Even if this was not an actual story, there are still sick people in this world that have done things like this.

What is wrong with people? I have 4 daughters of my own. I just can’t imagine… I don’t even want to go into it because I feel myself getting upset.

This brings me to the second thing that disturbs me. “MY” feelings about it… Let me explain. I have always been a man that has known God, but I haven’t always been one to follow every command that the Bible teaches. It has only been this year in which I really have decided to be more spiritual and Godly. I am not one of those people that talk about God 24 hours a day and can only converse with people that feel the same way. I consider myself easy to get along with. With that being said let me continue… I genuinely care for people and think that all people deserve a chance. I am not here to judge anyone and I try as hard as I can not to judge others. But a person that can rape and kill kids, I found myself hating this type of person after watching this episode. I know most people will say my hatred is justified, but in all honesty, it’s not. Who am I to judge anyone. Only God can judge the hearts of others. The Bible has taught me the only thing I can hate is sin. Yes, the rape and murder of kids is DEFINITELY sin, but it’s still not for me to judge.

Am I wrong for feeling this way?

Whew...  guess I just needed to vent...
